Becoming Catholic

“Our hearts are restless O Lord, until they rest in you.” – St Augustine, a great Saint of the Catholic Church

Catechism of the Catholic Church

CCC Prologue I. “God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength.”

Further Information

There are moments in life when we become aware that there is something deeper taking place, beyond what we see. We come to this realization that our hearts yearn for something more.

Every day, we find joy in simple things and connections, but there’s a deeper longing for profound happiness within us. This longing is something we all feel uniquely, and it’s a desire that God Himself has placed in our hearts.

St. Augustine, a wise Saint in the Catholic Church, expressed this longing by saying, “Our hearts are restless, O Lord, until they rest in you.” So, our journey toward becoming Catholic starts with a longing for God, who comes to us personally in Jesus Christ. He’s waiting for us, knocking on the door of our hearts, eager to fulfill our quest for truth and happiness.

The Catholic Church has a special way of welcoming adults into the faith known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This process, also called the Catechumenate, reflects the early Christian formation practices of the Church and covers all aspects of Christian life.
For the non-baptized, the RCIA program in a Catholic parish prepares them to receive the three Sacraments of Initiation—Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist. This typically happens at the Easter Vigil.

For those already baptized, the RCIA helps them prepare to be fully welcomed into the Catholic Church by receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist. This reception can occur during Easter celebrations or another appropriate season.
