Funerals

In your mercy O God, turn the darkness of death into the dawn of new life, and the sorrow of parting into the joy of heaven.

Catholic Funeral

Please contact the parish to discuss arrangements.

The Catholic funeral rites include:

  • Vigil for the Deceased: An informal gathering in the presence of the body, held either in the home, in the Chapel of the Funeral Directors, or in the parish Church on the night before the Funeral Liturgy. The Vigil involves prayers, readings, and an opportunity for a relative or friend to share some “words of remembrance.”
  • Funeral Liturgy: The central liturgical celebration, often held in the church. It can be a Mass with the final commendation or a Liturgy of the Word followed by prayers and a final commendation.
  • The Rite of Committal: The final act of care for the deceased, held at the cemetery or in the Crematorium Chapel. This rite, involving burial or cremation, typically follows the funeral liturgy.
